Enjoy a great evening of Celtic music with the trio ShamRoK on Saturday, June 29 at 7:00 pm here at Buffalo UMC. You will be unable to keep your toes from tapping to this great upbeat Irish music. Pentecost Celebration May 19

Don’t miss Sunday, May 19 when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, and also the many ministries that have touched people’s lives in the past year. This will be a festive Sunday as Sunday School children enjoy their “banquet table”, the Motorcyle and Bicycle blessings take place, children sing in worship, a hot breakfast is served, and there will be a few surprises along the way. Come see how the Holy Spirit is working through the people of this congregation to serve the world!

Baby Animal Fair April 21

There is a wonderful community event called The Baby Animal Fair coming up on Sunday, April 21 from noon-4 pm at the Buffalo Civic Center. This event raise funds, awareness and support for Heifer International, a global non-profit that works to end world hunger by providing livestock and other food products to families and villages around the world. The idea is that they can propagate and “pay it forward” to others as well. Our church will be running the pig booth at this fun family event, so stop by and see us there!

Families, this is a fantastic free event (though a food shelf donation is encouraged for admittance). There are all kinds of animals, music, entertainment, food from all around the world, crafts, animal booths, and also booths of local organizations. Come learn more about Heifer International, and have fun in the process!

Celebrate New Life!

The gift of Easter is that through Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, we receive eternity – the promise of heaven! That alone is an amazing thing to celebrate…we’ll take on a new form, and exist in a new place with new understandings of the universe. It’s hard to imagine, but we rest on the promise and assurance it brings us.

But I believe that Christ didn’t come only to bring us the gift of our next life, but also the gift of a new life right here on earth. He was our role model for a better way of living. He showed us how to treat people, what is important in life, and also what isn’t important and shouldn’t take too much of our attention. The promise of a new life can be ours right here and right now, not just in heaven. We can embrace a new way of living – Christ’s way of living – at any time. We can be transformed just like a caterpillar coming out of a cocoon as a butterfly…just like Saul becoming Paul and going from preaching against God to becoming one of Jesus’ disciples.

Celebrate the gift of new life! Start now to change those things in your life that you know need changing. Do it one step at a time if necessary, but start moving down a fresh path. And if we here at Buffalo United Methodist Church can help you in any way, please let us know. Join us in worship, especially Easter Sunday, March 31! We also have study opportunities, a Christian preschool, a grief support group, children’s ministries and much, much more. In addition, we open our doors to five different AA groups and a multiple sclerosis support group.

“Big Band” Concert April 27

Do you enjoy the big band and swing music of years gone by? Come enjoy the Brooklyn Big Band concert on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 pm. This group from Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Brooklyn Center plays all around the Minneapolis area, sharing favorites from Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and even hymns arranged in big band style. It’s a big sound and a lot of fun! Refreshments will be served following the concert. A freewill offering will be received.

Wednesday Lenten Study

Our 2013 Lenten study is “The Way of the Cross.” Every Wednesday through March 20 we will gather to learn more about the apostle Paul’s transformation, and how we too can live transformed lives. All are welcome to the large group study with Pastor Jef. We gather in the sanctuary from 6:40 – 7:30 pm, following an optional congregational dinner at 6:00. Join us any Wednesday you are able!

Gospel Concert March 9

Come enjoy the rich, gospel harmonies of Kingdom Road on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 pm. This group is back by popular demand after an amazing concert last spring. These men have been singing traditional gospel music together for more than 13 years at Park Avenue United Methodist Church and around the Minneapolis area. You will be truly blessed by the music and heart of this group! Refreshments will be served following the concert. A freewill offering will be received.

Ash Wednesday Worship

We welcome all to an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, February 13 at 6:40 pm. (Supper is served at 6:00 pm for all who wish to partake.) This is always a meaningful service as we begin the season of Lent. We acknowledge our failures and display our need for redemption through the placement of ashes on our foreheads; then we receive communion and accept through God’s grace that we are washed clean.

“Songs for the Heart” Concert

Warm your heart with favorite “love songs” with Heart Strings in concert here on Saturday, February 16 at 7 pm. Local musicians John Hagen, Dottie & Glenn Johnson and Kenny Wurm will sing popular love songs from decades past in a country style. Celebrate God’s great gift of love through the joy of music. Delectable desserts will be served following the concert.

Support for People in Recovery

The leadership team of this congregation made a commitment many years to support people in recovery from addictions by opening our doors to support groups of that nature. We currently have five AA groups that meet throughout the week in our church. If you are looking for an AA group to help you maintain your health through sobriety, check the times on the AA website.
